Amazon raising Prime subscriptions by $20 to $99 a year

When you sign up or go to renew your Amazon Prime subscription, you’ll now be charged an annual rate of $99 instead of the $79 that has been charged since the service launched. An email to current Prime members appears to attribute the price rise to rising fuel and transportation costs. There is a get-out clause if you’re quick enough .New subscribers who sign up for the free trial within the next seven days, will be able to lock in the old price for a year.

Beyond that though, there are no good news except that the price rise wasn’t higher. Amazon had previously said that it could raise the price by as much as $40.
