It was several years back when Gartner predicted that Apple would maintain their hold on the tablet market until 2015. However, a new study from Gartner shows that Android has broken that hold, taking a dominant lead with a 62% market share, compared to Apple’s 36%. Google’s Android hit the top spot thanks to more tablet sales overall, however Gartner also credits the proliferation of cheaper, smaller-screen slates (such as the Nexus 7) with establishing Android’s dominance over iOS.
The other winner in this case is Samsung, according to the study, the companty grew by 336 percent in 2013 to grab a 19.1% share of the tablet market. However, Microsoft saw a much more modest growth, with Windows 8 tablets accounting for just 2.1% of the market in 2013.
