Apple hit with $3 million damages in iPod click wheel dispute

Apple are no strangers when it comes to lawsuits over their flagship iPhone and iPad products. This time, the lawsuit is against the older iPod models. Tokyo District Court has ordered that Apple pay ¥300 million ($3.3 million) to Japanese inventor Norihiko Saito for infringing on his patent that covers a touch-sensitive click wheel, which was used in the iPod Classic and older models of the iPod.

The request for damages to be paid comes five years after the patent lawsuit was originally filed, during which he demanded damages of ¥10 billion ($101 million), mostly based on the amount of iPods that Apple sold during that same period.
