It is already a fact that games such as FIFA, Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed have become a standard ingredient for every year’s “Christmas recipe” for successful video games. But at the same time, such games can be big trouble for Electronic Arta, Activision and Ubisoft. Because how can you present every year the same title with enough modifications in order to improve – even slightly – your progress but not that changed so you do put at stake the billions you make out of sales?
As Ubisoft found out by making a series of serious mistakes it is very easy for things to go wrong. Assassin’s Creed Unity had some clearly interesting ideas but the implementation was far from the ideal result that everybody was looking for. As a matter of fact, in some cases the troubleshooting policy followed by the French was tragicomedy.
So it is no surprise that now everyone is waiting waiting with increased interest – especially after some leaks on the Web – the first official info for this year’s Assassin’s Creed. This is the sequel that admittedly needs to make up for last year’s Assassin’s Creed Unity.
The full title of the new AC is Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and its storyline is putting the player in London this time, during the Industrial Revolution. The year is 1868 and the British capital is already split in rival gangs and the two protagonists of the title have with the mission to methodically take out the gangs. They even get in charge of one of the gangs at one point of the story. The two leading figures are brother and sister, Jacob and Evie Frye. Yes, for the first time in all the Assassin’s Creed series, players have the chance to play as a woman Assassin (even if the brother is getting more missions the Evie). In addition to that, more woman opponents will be put in the rival gangs. This move by Ubisoft is a response to the criticism that the company has been constantly receiving so far, that all players and NPCs in the AC series are men. The two siblings have adopted different battle styles with each one having their one advantages and disadvantages. The player must tell whose skills come in handy in each situation. Also this time, Ubisoft put some weight on the stealth move while body to body fights are more cruel since the fight is taking place on the streets.
In the more general gameplay, the new Assassin’s Creed will offer players the option to steal and use vehicles, move faster around the city using hooks and use objects around them as weapon or to create distraction.
Ubisoft has not yet revealed any further details about the connection of the AC Syndicate with the rest of the Assassin’s Creed family. Of course more information will come out at the E3 2015 during June. Until now we have seen two trailers and they were both enough reason to raise the interest as well as our expectations.
The game will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at October 23th and some time later it will also be available for PC, promising about 30% larger range of the virtual world compared the AC Unity.
So far, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate looks a good come back that has to make up for last year’s not so successful attempt. We still need to learn a few more details on the gameplay, graphics etc, but we all hope for the best!
