China Mobile is the world’s largest mobile carrier, servicing around 750 million subscribers. The carrier is awaiting approval from country regulators to flick the switch on their TD-LTE 4G network. The approval is likely to come before the end of the year. This could mean an early 2014 launch of China Mobile’s 4G network which means that China Mobile will also need to buy some new handsets that offer connectivity to the network.
According to sources in Taiwanese suppliers, China Mobile will purchase some 40 million TD-LTE enabled handsets next year along with 10 million TD-LTE data communication terminal devices. Considering the amount of devices being bought against the amount of subscribers, it would seem that China Mobile is not expecting many to swap to the 4G network this year.
