CyanogenMod are trying to take Android away from Google

cyanogenmod11CyanogenMod is probably the most known custom rom to Android. It is a really good alternative to the OEM versions of Android often installed when buying mobiles from large brands. With these phones Android is many times delivered with a skin designed by Samsung or LG e.g. CyanogenMod will almost always give a fell of stock Android.

According to Kirt McMSter, CEO at Cyanogen, they are now attempting to “Take Android away from Google”. By this they mean that they a trying to make themselves and their version of Android less dependent on, or independent of, Google.

“Today, Cyanogen has some dependence on Google. Tomorrow, it will not. We will not be based on some derivative of Google in three to five years.”

One of the reasons for this, they say, is that Cyanogen feels that Google is holding developers back when it comes to what can be done with the Android platform and by being independent from Google would allow developers to go deeper into the system.
