According to a research note obtained by Apple Insider, Apple might be considering a convex home button with the rumoured fingerprint scanner embedded onto it. The convex design will help Apple to save a lot of space and embed the fingerprint scanner into it says KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
According to Kuo, Apple will be using Sapphire for the home button for increased resistance to the possible scratches and thus by protecting the fingerprint scanner for a long time. Apple uses the technology from AuthenTec, which is a company Apple bought in 2012. they use leading edge RF and capacitive technologies in its biometric chips. Kuo believes their technology is superior and will not cause any misreadings to the build up of dust or anything as such. He also believes the placement is perfect since the users won’t be confused as in where to place the finger for the biometric scanning because of the single home button + scanner.
The convex design might be a good idea to place the scanner by saving up some space, but we must see that a design like this will attract scratches. It is why Apple is using sapphire which is the second most material with hardness rating, just after diamonds. According to AllThingsD Apple is planning to launch the all new iPhone 5S by September 10th this year.
Do you think its really an innovation from Apple to include the fingerprint sensor on iPhone? I think it could become handy but that about it. Let us know your thoughts by commenting below.
