Microsoft restructure plans rumored to be revealed on the 1st July

Rumors are today pointing firmly on the calendar and saying that July 1st looks to be the reveal date for Microsoft’s restructure plans.

According to sources that are close to the situation unfolding at Microsoft, CEO Steve Ballmer could be announcing his plans for the restructuring of Microsoft on July 1st.

AllThingsD have reported that these sources have made suggestions and indications that the plans could include larger roles for several executives, units being moved into new divisions and also significant departures from the company.

It would appear that there is also a focus on – as was reported in an annual shareholders letter last year – that they want to solidify Microsoft into a “device and services company”.

The decisions are said to have taken place without including some of Microsoft’s most senior executives but instead with a small group of people and some Microsoft board members.

A source close to the situation told All Things D, “It feels like it is going to be titanic – that Steve is doing this change for his legacy and it’s the first time in a long time that it feels like there will be some major shifts, including some departures.”
