Dave Hakkens, a Duct designer has proposed a LEGO style modular smartphone called Phonebloks. The proposed design would allow you to swap out features such as the antenna, battery or the processor when they age or when they stop working. The idea is that you wouldn’t have to throw away the entire phone when one component fails.
The idea of cutting down on phone waste with this design is very appealing but the mobile industry thrives on people upgrading their phones. As a concept, we love the idea of this, as a reality, we’re not so sure.
