Preview: Samsung Galaxy Tab S2

Samsung recently announced the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, a brand new Android tablet which is available in two sizes – 8 inches and 9 inches – and two colors, black or white. The interesting thing is that in both sizes, it’s only 5.6 mm thick! In case you missed it that is 0.6 mm less than Apple’s iPad Air 2. It seems that Samsung is investing a lot of effort to make its devices as thin as possible – don’t forget the Samsung Galaxy A8, the company’s thinnest smartphone.

The company’s new tablet features a Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels.

The bigger model has the same size with the iPad Air 2, which circulated last October and is managing to offer the same resolution while weighting 46g less.

The new Tabs run with an Octa-Core processor (four clocked at 1.9 GHz and the other four clocked at 1.3 GHz), 3GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of internal memory, depending on the version you choose. There is also a microSD port, to add extra memory up to 128 GB.

The operating system is of course the Android 5.0 Lollipop. There is an 8 Megapixels camera at the back of the device and a 2.1 MP on the front to have fun with your selfies.

Besides the technical features, Samsung has managed to create a complete device concerning the software as well. There a finger print sensor, while the company’s software allows to multi-task using pop-up windows for quick switches between apps.

It might be quite soon to judge the Samsung Tab S2, but on the other hand, some things are pretty obvious right from the start. So here’s a list with some of the pros and cons that we expect to see.

  • Latest OS
  • Rumored Competitive price
  • Ease of use

  • Was expected with stronger technical features
  • No 4G connectvity option

In both sizes, the Tab S2 will be released this August. The company hasn’t released in public the prices yet, so we can only guess the range of customers that Samsung is targeting with this tablet. It is obvious however, that the iPad Air 2, will soon get itself a worthy rival from Apple’s opponent. Until the official release, we might see some more leaks concerning the tablet’s special features (even though the company has not left much out).
