Rumor: Apple in talks with Beats to buy Beats Audio for $3.2 billion

Beats AudioAccording to latest rumors, Apple is planning to buy Beats Audio for $3.2 billion and it might happen sooner than you think. The report comes from NYTimes and says the deal could be announced as soon as next week. If this deal gets announced, it will be the largest acquisition ever by Apple. The deal might include the recently started premium streaming service by Beats Audio.

HTC had purchased 50.1% of Beats Audio back in 2011 for $300 million and started offering Beats software along with branded headphones for their premium level smartphones. However they stopped offering the earphones and the software by 2012 – 2013 due to the associated costs. Last year HTC divested its holdings in the company.

Beats Audi was founded by music producer Jimmy Iovine, and rapper Dr. Dre. Including a $500 million investment from the Carlyle Group.
