If talk from the supply chains and analysts are proved correct, we could see a merging of the MacBook Air and iPad, dubbed the ‘iPad Pro’.
Arriving in fall ’14, Apple goes Enterprise with an 12″ iPad. Powered by the A8 chip…this expands ARM’s reach and, once again, transforms the traditional notebook market as we know it.
Expect a 2-1 hybrid — think iPad + MBA — similar to how most iPads are used in the workplace and in the same spirit of MSFT’s Surface.
That is what Evercore Partners analyst Patrick Wang thinks. Adding that Apple would effectively try to emulate Wintel’s (Microsoft + Intel’s 2-in-1 laptop + tablet) strategy, citing Microsoft Surface as an example. But Wang also comments that with such a device, there may come a threat to Intel. With the arrival of such a hybrid, Apple will undoubtedly include a new “quad-core A8 processor”.
“This would hit Intel in an area of strength — enterprise [laptops],”
