Rumour: Nexus 5 to be the world’s first smartphone with MEMS camera

Recent rumours about Google’s next Nexus device have revealed that Google Nexus 5 will be having MEMS Camera. Earlier today we reported about the rumour which hinted the launch date of Nexus 5, now we have the reports which say Nexus 5 is going to be the first ever smartphone to come with MEMS camera. If this is going to be true, the phone will be home to a fastest on a phone, 8 mega pixel camera with Lytro like functionality.

Well, if you don’t really know much about the MEMS cameras here is a little bit info for you. MEMS cameras will be able to focus 7 times faster than other average cameras with the ability to take multiple images a lot faster. Like a Lytro camera, if the object is not moving fast you will be able to capture first and then focus. Pretty neat huh? Here are a few more facts about the Nexus 5 Camera:

  • 8-megapixel unit that is not backside illuminated (not BSI)
  • f/2.4 aperture
  • sensor size of 1/3.2” (a bit smaller than top shelf smartphones)
