Twitter testing ways to hide @replies and hashtags

Twitter occasionally tests out ways to streamline their service. Whilst some features make it into Twitter, others are doomed to fail. Buzzfeed reports that in its latest experiment, Twitter has begun changing how the @reply is shown, in some case hiding the usernames completely.

The change is currently limited to the beta versions of the official app, drops the mentions in lieu of grouped conversations, relying on the grey/blue line to make the engagement work. Twitter is also looking into whether it can cut manual operators like hashtags and introduce more visual cues into the service, which will help new users understand how the Twitter works.
