Nokia announced today that they have started rolling out the Windows Phone 7.8 update for all the devices running Windows Phone 7.5 operating system. The new update will bring you a lot of personalization features like resizing ability for the tiles, lock screen changes, ability to choose more theme colors etc.
Nokia has already started shipping Lumia 510 with the Windows Phone 7.8. For all the other devices it might take a few weeks more. Nokia is planning to start the roll out to phones which currently run version 7.5 including Nokia Lumia 510, 610, 710, 800 and 900 during February.
Once the update is ready for your phone, a message will pop up on your phone encouraging you to install the update. You will have to connect to your PC or Mac and update via zune for PC or Windows Phone App for Mac respectively.
A lot of awesome features are on your way through this update. Among these, bluetooth sharing is the most awaited feature I believe. Along with that, you will also be able to share internet using your phone. Some other features are listed below:
- Resizing ability for tiles – small, medium & large
- Background image from bing for your lock screen
- Improved pocket and child lock screen security
- Supported more languages
- A revamped start screen.
The exact update date scheduled for you will not be available as your operator should approve the update first. Once they approve you will get the notification. Anyway Nokia says that the update will more likely to be pushed to your phone within the next 3 weeks. Even after 3 weeks if you don’t get the update you can talk to your operator regarding this. Anyway you might want to check the settings to know whether the notification in switched on so that your phone will notify you when the update comes. You can confirm it by going to Settings -> Phone Update -> âNotify me when new updates are foundâ.
