Xiaomi officially launched their MIUI Android fork back in August of 2010 and just a year later, they launched their first handset. Fast-forward two years and a new report is saying that Xiaomi has already become the 5th biggest smartphone maker in China.
As of now, the only manufacturers ahead of Xiaomi include Samsung, Apple, Nokia and Huawei but it is very likely that they could break into the top three within the next few years. This is due to their business model which has seen them following a strategy that is similar to Amazon, which has helped them build a hefty market share. This strategy i ncludes selling high spec devices and low cost with Xiaomi taking lower profit on the assumption that they can earn more money via it’s content stores.
